Hello, I’m emily b.

writer DIRECTOR FILMMAKER

Here I am, with the magnavox. Forever standing on a dining room chair. This was my grandfathers 70th birthday. GG called him Bob. He was a jazz pianist, among other things. Documented everything. Each photo, a typed explanation on the back, in courier. Who, what, when , where, and why.  I get it now.  If we say what is, then maybe we understand what for

Curiosity is the fire that must be stoked. Asking questions, documenting and observing life as it unfolds, listening…these are the beautiful parts of what makes us.   To date my short documentaries have aired via PBS. I am currently in development for a feature length documentary, and a 5 Episode Documentary Variety Limited Series. For more details go to the press page.

When working with a brand, I find an access point that feels authentic, relatable and human. Many if not all of the brands I work with focus on social impact, environmentally forward technology, and or growth, health, and personal development. Google Innovation, Mitsubishi Electric, Kiwi Co., Intel and LA Master Chorale are some of the notable brands I'm proud to collaborate with.

I write stories and make films to alchemize, understand, and remember. I will be figuring out what my voice sounds like till the day I die. My hope is to change intentionally not passively, and create from that unstable place. I most certainly get things wrong, but in spite of the cringe, will keep making. For more details on my current projects go to the press page.

About Me

breast cancer campaign, womens health, campaign, documentary, solis mammography, story teller, strategy, women in film, menopause, perimenopause, telly awards

I am tirelessly curious about why and how we are the way we are. I began my creative path in the visual arts and communication, ending up in film and media

Throughout my career the intersection has always been messaging.  My intrigue peaks when I can utilize a creative platform to initiate change in social and political constructs, whether through narrative story-telling, documentaries, or commercial campaigns.

Telling stories about the people I see and know, but never see on screen,  lights me up.   My writing often imbues a wry, whimsy; an echo of the tug of war between my rural upbringing and current urban palatability.  Satire and social commentary. Things are funny because they are true. This is also why they are sad

I mostly write about what keeps me up at night. A foreboding idealist. Slacks and a dress.  I am far more melodramatic than I would like to believe.

My filmmaking efforts have taken me to Sundance, have won me Telly Awards, Official Selection into multiple Oscar Qualifying Film Festivals, garnered Editors Pick at Ad Forum… for more on all  the blah blah, go to my press page.

Amaro. I do love Amaro, and marching bands!  Note the exclamation point. Percussive instruments make me cry. I need fables and allegories and folklore and myth. I save seeds.  I pray to James Baldwin every night before bed, and even though I am certain I will never figure out the answer, that is exactly what gets me up every morning.
